Anlo Rural Bank PLC is seeking a skilled IT Officer to join our team and ensure our banking operations are supported by robust, secure, and efficient technology. 

In this role, you will maintain and enhance the bank’s computer systems and networks, safeguard our IT environment against threats, and support innovative solutions to improve how we serve our customers. This is a hands-on technical position where you will collaborate with colleagues across departments to keep our IT infrastructure running smoothly and to implement new improvements. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Systems & Network Maintenance: Install, configure, and troubleshoot computer hardware, software, and servers. Ensure high availability of network resources and quickly resolve any issues to minimize downtime
  2. IT Security: Enhance and maintain IT system security. Regularly apply software patches and updates, perform data backups, manage antivirus protection, and enforce access controls to protect against cyberattacks and data breaches.
  3. Monitoring & Optimization: Proactively monitor the bank’s IT infrastructure (servers, networks, applications) to optimize performance and respond to potential security threats. Take preventive action to avoid data loss or service interruptions.
  4. Network Administration: Manage and monitor the network infrastructure, including configuring firewalls, intrusion detection systems, routers, switches, and VPNs. Ensure network security measures are up-to-date and effective.
  5. Vulnerability Management: Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration tests. Identify potential weaknesses and implement solutions or mitigations to strengthen the bank’s defenses.
  6. Process Automation: Collaborate with departments to automate manual processes. Develop or deploy software and scripts where necessary to improve efficiency (for example, scripting routine tasks or integrating systems).
  7. Web & Social Media Support: Work with the marketing team to ensure the bank’s website and social media platforms are technically maintained and updated. (For the website, this may involve content updates or coordinating with web developers; for social media, ensuring integration with the website or resolving any IT-related issues.)
  8. Policy & Compliance: Assist in implementing and updating the bank’s IT policies, procedures, and standards. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations (e.g., Data Protection Act) and align with industry best practices for security and governance.
  9. Technology Evaluation: Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and tools. Evaluate and recommend new solutions that could improve the bank’s efficiency, cybersecurity, or service delivery.
  10. Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to understand their IT needs and provide solutions. Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical staff when needed.
  11. Documentation: Document IT systems, configurations, licenses, and standard procedures. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base to assist in training new team members and to ensure continuity.
  12. Other Duties: Perform any other IT-related duties as assigned by management or the Board of Directors. (This may include special projects or tasks that come up to support the bank’s IT operations.)

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (required).
  2. Experience: Approximately 5+ years of relevant IT experience, including at least 2 years in a similar role (e.g., IT Officer, Systems/Network Administrator, or IT Manager). Experience in the banking or financial services sector is an advantage.

Technical Skills (Required):

  1. Strong knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems (Windows Server and/or Linux), and IT networks.
  2. Hands-on experience with network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs) and network security practices.
  3. Proficiency in managing system security: patch management, antivirus/anti-malware tools, backups, and user access controls.
  4. Familiarity with Active Directory and managing user accounts in a domain environment.
  5. Experience with monitoring tools and responding to system alerts to ensure uptime.
  6. Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across both hardware and software issues.

Technical Skills (Preferred):

  1. Experience with core banking software (especially Temenos T24) is a strong plus.
  2. Familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools such as OpenVAS or similar, and the ability to interpret and act on their reports.
  3. Ability to write or understand scripts/code in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, Java, C#, JavaScript, or shell scripting) to aid in automation and task simplification.
  4. Knowledge of database systems (e.g., SQL databases) and website content management is a plus.

Certifications (Preferred):

Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Network+, Security+ or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate/Expert are advantageous. Certification in IT security or cybercrime (e.g., CEH, CISSP) or a Certified Data Protection Supervisor certification would be an added advantage.

Soft Skills:

  1. Leadership and Initiative: Ability to take ownership of IT projects and lead initiatives independently. A self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
  2. Collaboration: Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; able to work closely with non-IT staff and explain technical concepts in plain language.
  3. Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills for reporting IT issues and solutions to management and training staff on new systems.
  4. Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic environment and adept at handling multiple priorities. Able to stay calm and effective under pressure.
  5. Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical and data analysis skills to interpret system logs, security alerts, and performance metrics, helping to diagnose problems and identify trends.
